Dank and dark and absent moonlit glow
Crept through cavern stone walls.
Warrior bent on escape driven by terror
Robbed of sleep by a tyrannical foe.
At last succumbed to the farthest end
Near enough to hear the tired breath.
The monarch slept unaware of his peril
Full of life yet close to sudden death.

Strike while the getting is good some say
Put an end to this sordid wickedness.
Expose the creature for whom has become
Reveal the contents of this shame.
Hold not back the hand that can take all
Cease from this useless wonder.
Capture the moment that God has granted
Pin the spear take the chance to plunder.

Hold and stop and still the well trained arm
No life shall forfeit by chance alone.
Slice the robe or tear the hem a sign to show
Anointed king shall come to no harm.
Whoever spoke that rumor to incite pursuit
A lying tongue to seize the throne?
To take the place of God and judge between
Of they who chose to cast the first stone.
